Railton Foundation Swellendam had the privilege to take 11 players to the 20/20 Community Street Soccer Tournament in Philippi on Sunday, 25 March 2018, hosted by Oasis Linking Lives Together.

The 11 players are members of our Railton street soccer development teams coached by Mark Conrad and Aviwe Ganyathi. They were identified during the Foundation’s Street Soccer Tournaments held on the 2nd and 16th of March 2018.

Our team made the finals and achieved 2nd place overall after competing against 9 other community teams from the Cape Metro, Overberg and the Winelands. The final score was Parkwood 7 – 5 RFS.

Team members received silver medals as runner -ups and 4 of the RFS players are entered in the pool for the 20/20 Community Street Soccer National trials. These players gave everything to make this opportunity a success, despite their personal challenges. One of them basically played his shoes into tatters and a member of the Professional Football Association (PFA) donated a pair of training shoes to him. Our players really enjoyed the games and displayed good sportsmanship.

Railton Foundation Swellendam is all about development and creating opportunities for the community of Swellendam.
