Railton Foundation Swellendam, in collaboration with other stakeholders, hosted the April school holiday program from 3 – 12 April 2017.
The objective of this program is to provide a safe and conducive environment for children during school holidays. We had different themes for the mentioned period and activities included sport, fun, recreation, arts and craft, and a visit to Bontebok National Park. We also did some awareness around children’s rights, democracy education and even had a movie day.
We kept approximately 105 children busy on a daily basis and we managed to give them a nutritious meal every day.
The following stakeholders supported the program with a lot of enthusiasm and assisted with logistics, meals, administration and project coordination:
Badisa, IEC, Entheos Boxing Academy, SAPS, ACVV, SANParks (Bontebok Park), MOD Centre, Department of Social Development, the Principals and SGB of VRT Pitt and Bontebok Primary Schools, Swellendam Municipality, Swellendam Arts Movement, Swellengram, CAP Day Care, The Association for Disabled Peoples (APD), Tony’s Butchery, African Bank and Morne’s Catering Services. Hayley Markwell, a volunteer from the United Kingdom, also joined the program and her energy added a sparkle to the activities.
We express our heartfelt thanks to everyone including the staff and volunteers of Railton Foundation Swellendam, who helped to make this initiative a success by making a difference in the lives of our children.
