Railton Foundation Swellendam hosted 2 events on Friday, 15 June 2018 and Saturday, 16 June 2018 at VRT Pitt Primary School.

The 1st one was the Drama Showcase presented by the participants of the Arts & Culture Development Project that was funded by the Community Arts & Culture Centre Federation of the Western Cape and the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs & Sport. The drama production was “The Law”, an extract/song from District Six, the musical. Freek Oerson, Michael Wentworth and Percival Isaacs facilitated the drama coaching and workshops. The program for both events included an item by the 11 participants of the dance classes who danced the waltz and Hilton Clarke, Alpha Fransman and Norbert Gertse were responsible for the dance classes and workshops. Please note that this project continues and anyone interested can contact the Foundation for more information

It was evident in the presentations that this project made a positive impact in the development of the 37 participants. The audience really enjoyed what was presented.

The 2nd event on Saturday was the now very popular dance competition. Contestants from Swellendam, Heidelberg, Barrydale, Montagu, Bredasdorp and Kensington entered for the competition and a total of 13 crews participated. The atmosphere at the event was electric but also in very good spirit thanks to the Program Director, Jason Riddles who really rocked! The décor and the sound were great thanks to our service providers, Morne’s Catering Services and Graham Sounds respectively.

The independent judging panel consisted of Mel de Vries (MelRock),  Rozeandra Griffiths and Norbert Gertse and they were very impressed with the performances as well as the well-organized event and indicated that they will assist the Foundation with this type of event in the future. It was heart-warming to see how local supporters just pitched in and volunteered to assist with the logistics as well as the clean up afterwards.

The winners of the 2018 competition are:

In 1st Place: Kensington Dance Crew – Prizes R2500 cash plus R500 Checkers voucher.

2nd place: Nicole O’Neill – Prize R1500 cash.

3rd place: Almighty#706 from Swellendam – Prize R500 cash.
