THANKSGIVING FUNCTION – YANDISA NOMADLUKA
HOMELESS WORLD CUP CARDIFF CITY, WALES 2019
Railton Foundation Swellendam held a small thanksgiving function on the 11th of July 2019 to congratulate Yandisa on his selection to the South African Homeless Street Soccer team to participate in the 2019 Homeless World Cup in Cardiff City, Wales from the 27th of July to the 3rd of August 2019.
Yandisa is very proud that the coaches invited him to become a part of this select soccer programme. As a member of the South African team, he will play other select teams from other nations across the world and it is an honour for him to represent our country and Swellendam at this event.
As Clifford Marthinus, the Coordinator for Oasis Linking Lives said in his congratulatory letter, that “homelessness is understood differently across the world and the official international organisation is named; Homeless World Cup and it is based in Scotland. In South Africa; Oasis is the official organisation in our country to select and prepare a team and we do this through selecting youth from various NGO services that deal with youth at risk, youth living on the street or youth living in adverse conditions of which all have the desire for better personal development opportunities through initiatives like this one. You have been identified through one of these criteria which falls within the requirements of Homeless World Cup.”
Railton Foundation Swellendam plays a pivotal role in the development of 4-a-side soccer in Swellendam and as a result, exposed Yandisa and other youth at risk to this opportunity. He is one of 3 players that made the national team for 3 consecutive years (Aviwe Ganyathi – Oslo 2017; Rudi Pieterse – Mexico 2018 and Yandisa Nomadluka – Cardiff 2019).
His mother is so proud of him and his coaches, the chairperson of the local LFA as well as the Foundation team and the broader community wish him and the team good luck and safe travels to Cardiff and back.
