Railton Foundation Swellendam hosted our first friendly street soccer tournament on 2 March 2018 at the area next to the community hall in Railton.

Teams comprised of the unemployed youth, primary and high school learners who participate in our sport development project. The objective for the development of Football 3 (4-a-side street soccer) is to get the participants/players to a level where we they can participate in the league to be established. Our partner in this venture is OASIS -Changing Live in Cape Town. This is also an opportunity for the youth to engage in constructive activities.

Four junior and ten senior teams signed up from 14:00. The games were played in good spirit in terms of fair play and it was evident that there is talent in Swellendam. The winning team for the juniors was the Tiger boys and the winner in the senior category was the “Street Staylors”.

We appreciate the support of the stakeholders, Bontebok Park, the Drostdy Museum and Swellendam Municipality who assisted to make this tournament a successful one. Rob Nönner and his family from the Netherlands also joined us. He is very supportive towards our soccer development program and regularly brings us donations of soccer jerseys donated by Dutch federation teams and the Foundation really appreciates the gesture.

The teams are looking forward to the next friendly tournament that will take place on the 16th of March 2018 at the same venue and players can contact Mark Conrad or Aviwe Ganyathi to enter teams for the tournament.
